Two days in a row I start her without time for warm up and a bank goes out w " service engine soon light " when I take off . Stop and start with same results until warm and then she runs fine . Today I start and let warm up about 10 minutes and she does fine.. No service light .I had a similar problem earlier when warm or cold and Lucas injector cleaner and a new fuel filter solved it. I have been adding cleaner once a month Any ideas ? I do not have a diagnostic tool ..
One more thing . I didn't mention , this F-250 truck has only 101k on it , 6 Speed, but has pulled lots. ( 4 horse gooseneck and 30 foot 5th wheels ) It has not been to the shop because I have no money so I have to fix it myself. how much will a diagnostic tool run me? From reading these forums it looks like I'm gonna need it. Any help on possible reasons it acts up cold but not warm? Could it be the uvc connection?
You could have some glow plugs gone bad. You can also do a injector tune up. The armature plate may not have enuff clearance. You can find the kit on eBay. Mine was about $75. As far as scan tools go you will need to be able to to keep tests."key on engine off" a somewhat decent cheap scanner will run around $300. Maybe. Read up on them before you buy. I've got a Snapon solus ultra that I use for work and I love it. It'll put you back a few grand tho. What all have you done so far in diagnosis?
Thank you so much for your response. like I said , all I really know at this point is that if I warm it up all is well. When I try to take off cold, the CEL comes on . and it sputters like a whole bank is out .. I checked the injector electric plugins outside the valve covers and they seem tight. When it did this I shut it down, restart, it idles normal . Then if I try to drive it resumes sputtering with CEL on . If I just sit and let it idle til warm , all is well. I had a similar problem last year and after using Lucas injector cleaner it went away . The big question in my mind is what part would fail cold but work fine warm ...? I was wondering if one of the UVC injector connections could be loose and it tightens up due to heat expansion??
If the injector spool valve doesn't open enuff it will act up when cold and fine win warm. A passthrough connection is possible but I think it would happen as it got warm. Remember everything expands when warm. I'm leaning tward the injector tune up. The guy that sales them has good instructions. Runs rough and white smoke cold start. I did it to mine last year.
If one entire bank is not firing, you have an IDM problem. It happened to mine a few moths ago. I got a remand IDM for $125 on ebay and it has been working great. You just send the core back in the same box.
Thanks ..what is involved in the "injector tune up"
