Stock Boost Pressure

Just hooked up my boost guage tonight and it peeks at 15#. From what I've read that is right on for a bone stock 99 7.3. Can anyone confirm this to be true?

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

early 99 or late 99? I can hit 23 pretty easy with my stock early 99 and used to hit 24 with my late 99.

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

I had leaking up pipes (not to bad.only one) The best I could hit when I was stock was 17psi. No boost leaks.

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

I'm pretty much stock for now (chip coming soon) and I can hit around 15psi easily and will get to 17-18 in 3rd gear if I have enough road. It seems to be climbing but I usually run out of road and 70+mph on county roads isn't the best idea.

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

Dont mean to steel your forum.just have a similar question.
just got a garrett 38r with 1.0 housing. getting 26 psi max...I was getting the same with the stock turbo. Have a spearco i/c, 4'' exhaust, intake, aswell. i was expecting more from the 38r. Could it be the edge attitude monitor is inaccurate?? Dont have a manual boost guage but its coming.
Reading your posts and seems as if there should be no way i could reach 26 with a stocker. 2002 7.3

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

Stock max should be around 17lbs. 15lbs is about right if you dont have some
weight to really build the boost up.

Apple to oranges my friend.

Your 38R has a larger wheel in it. Although you are seeing the same boost #, you're actually flowing more volume.

Re: Stock Boost Pressure

I guess I will put in my .02 on both Q's. I have a 2000 with an auto and rock stock it would put out no more than about 15psi. Chip would get it to 21ish. I then disconnected my wastegate acuator line and with the chip could get to 28+. I ran it that way for almost 2 years. A week ago I installed a GT38R, I went with a 1.15 A/R housing and my boost numbers actually went down. (As I expected they would.) The truck seems to have more power throughout the RPM range though and I am happy with it. The GT38R actually maxes out at 28 right now with stock injectors and chip. Didn't want to take the factory turbo over 30, so it never got floored in 3rd or 4th gear with a load on it. (It surged too bad anyway)

To the OP, you can try to adjust the wastegate or even just pull the red line off the actuator and put it on one of the nearby hose clamps. I haven't heard of this causing any problems....and my experience with it says the same. I doubt it would give you much without a chip/tuner though.
