Still low power under 2000 rpm

SO i had a t-500 hpop put on big red the other day. runs a lot better at high rpm but still NO power from 1300-2000 rpm. i have to power brake it to get it to move with a trailer behind it. fuel economy still good. starts and idles great. tranny good shifts etc like always. fuel pressure good no smoke issues. im confused what to do next. fuel filter new etc

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

Tranny slipping? Fluid burnt? Or maybe turbo hose has a big leak? We had a truck at work that did that amd it turned out to be a broken connecting hose for the turbo (split on the underside)

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

i thought tranny too. took it to shop and the guy who built my tranny in other truck said it was fine. he said it was "a fuel problem". ? connecting hose on turbo where and what is that?

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

no offense to anyone, but did the "tranny builder" have any sort of powerstroke diesel knowledge? i dont see that being a fuel problem at all, i have the same problem in my truck, its my tranny slipping hardcore, its getting a bts very soon if i dont sell it

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

and he is talking about the orange boots around your spyder in front of your turbo, the 2 boots coming up from each intake plenum. providing we're talking about an obs here without an intercooler

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

you have 3.55's....it's not gonna wanna go anywhere with a load on it, especially if you have larger tires than stock.....try this :

stick it in 4 low next time ur tied onto something, and see how well it moves out.....

gearing makes ALL the difference in the world.....

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

the wierd thing is its not that it takes off slow it dont want to move at all. and it shakes shudders and sputters. then at 2000 rpm it takes off. it acts the same if its in neutral and you just rev it up. i got it stuck with loaded 20' trailer yesturday in 4x4 and it would turn tires over great as long as i kept my foot in it.
again thanks for the replies this problem has stumped more than a few diesel mechanics

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

I see.... well, in that case, you probably need a torque converter

Re: Still low power under 2000 rpm

One more thought on this. When i take of from a stop the rpms don't climb like they should it just sputters and shakes. His 2000 rpm smooths out and takes off. If the torque converter was bad wouldn't the engine build rpms normally? Just slip and not take off?
