oil gallery plug?

Im almost positive this is where my oil leak is, there is oil coming down the down pipe (i have already changed turbo/pedestal O rings and made sure there is no leak in that area) oand my starter has a film of oil all over it.

My question is there an O ring for the oil gallery plug or do i jus need to buy a new plug? Where can i get one besides the stealership thanks in advance.

Re: oil gallery plug?

This would be the correct "O" ring for the oil galley plugs in the heads.

http://www.dieselorings.com/index.ph...cat=22&group=6

He also has the plug & "O" ring available as a kit.

Although I haven't replaced one yet according to the site the rear plugs must be a PITA to do with the engine in the truck.

Re: oil gallery plug?

no such thing as an oil "gallery".... the oil galley plug on the back of the head is the same as the one on the front.... 1/4" ratchet fits in it.... get your hand back there and feel for it.... Or get a small camera or bore scope and look... it's gonna suck and you may even bleed in the process.... really nothing else to tell really

Thanks for the correction now i dont sound like an idiot lol. This sounds pretty straight forward, so make sure the truck is off and get back there and screw it off and either replace the O ring or the whole plug itself, im sure it will suck doin it but thanks fir your guys help and correct me if im wrong about what i jus said thx.

Re: oil gallery plug?

Yeah, your gonna want a 1/2in drive ratchet instead. A good long handled one preferably wit a lot of teeth. You have very little room to work in there and if you have too much play in the ratchet then you will have a hard time turning the plugs in/out.

If the plug wont let loose you can use a propane torch to heat it a little.

Loc tite is a must here and you need to have the threads really clean beforehand.

Re: oil gallery plug?

Get a mortar mixing tub from home depot to use as a oil catch. Be careful when you remove the plug as oil will be leaking down at you. I would do this on a cool engine of coarse and remember that after the new plugs are in that it will take a while to fire as the oil rails will be empty. Refer to the instructions on starting up after an injector install.
