Flashing tow light?

This just started happening yesterday on my wifes X. The tow light came on, and it started shifting hard, and hunting. I checked fluid and it was OK.

The SES light came on just after that also.

Any ideas?

Re: Flashing tow light?

I'm going to call John tomorrow. I drove the X a bit today, and it seems like the solenoids are maybe going out. Just driving around town, it started acting up again. It would shift from 1-2 and then wouldn't shift into 3rd. I shut the truck off at a light, and restarted. After that it shifted fine.

I'm sure John will have some answers.

Re: Flashing tow light?

there are codes that you should get read. Any good tranny shop will have the diagnostic tool to read the tcm. The fluid looking good isn't a sign of anything being wrong or not wrong. I thought my tranny fluid looked good when I wiped it off on a cotton terry cloth. When I got my tranny flush I looked at the new fluid and the fluid I thought looked "cherry red and OK" and was shocked because it was disgusting compared to the new stuff. I would get the codes read then get back on the forums with the codes and go from there. Personally, I would take the codes to tdg where Mark K posts and hope that he helps you out. That guy really knows his shiz with these tranny. He's a former ford tranny engineer.

I'm here, too.

There's no way to know what's wrong without knowing what codes are stored in the computer's memory. You need someone with a scan tool that is compatible with your truck. The readers that Autozone uses to read the codes for free won't read Ford trans codes.
