Turbo underboost code Po299

Hey guys. My service engine soon light came on last Sunday, lastnight I went and got the code pulled and it came up PO299 Turbo/supercharger underboost. I am not noticing a difference in power and the gauge hasnt changed. I bought the truck from my girlfriends dad when he got his 2011 6.7L. He always drove the truck pretty aggressively also pushing the throttle as far as he could. I dont drive it like that at all. Im really nice to and just let it crawl up through the the gears and rpms and dont use the turbo all that much. Not like he did anyways. Im wondering if maybe my driving style has cause this. Is there a chance the turbo could be dirty, gummy, or plugged up in anyway since it doesnt see alot of hard use? Im new to the diesel world so please bare with me, I have done all the searching I could. I have also checked all hoses and tubes for loose connections? If I change my driving style is there anyway I might be able to clean the turbo out that way?

Thanks
Tom

Re: Turbo underboost code Po299

Are you referencing a separate boost gauge that you have or do you read boost off of the PCM through a Tuner? Could be that MAP sensor going bad, someone else chime in.

Re: Turbo underboost code Po299

I'm no 6 liter expert but we have a work van with a 6.0 in it. It threw the same code a month ago, I cleared it. Last week it threw the code again. Both times just like you- everything felt fine, this is on a van though so no boost gauge.
We brought it in the dealership the second time since its under warranty, they had to take the turbo out and they said it had rust? or somethin built up on it and needed to repair it.

Just your average 7.3

What kind of boost numbers are you showing? Cleaning the turbo should not be that bad, there is a manual on here on how to rebuild it.

Re: Turbo underboost code Po299

it gets to about 20-24 psi thats all its ever done since it got a new turbo on it 5 years ago. They reprogrammed the truck, it used to push about 32-36 psi on the old turbo.

Re: Turbo underboost code Po299

The truck is a 2005, yeah the ford garage told my girlfriends dad that 32-36 psi was to much for the 6.0s thats why they were reprogramming them. And ever since its done about 22-24 and never had any problems. The truck is not low on power or anything, if that light wasnt on you would have no idea that anything was different. Do you think it just needs to be cleaned?
